After helicopter maintenance training in the US Army, John saw service Vietnam as a crew chief/gunner on AH-1G, OH-58 helicopters. After military service he obtained his Airframe and Powerplant license from the Academy of Aeronautics and after graduation remained as an instructor on aircraft structure and reciprocating engines.
John joined United States Aviation Underwriters, Inc. in 1976. As a branch claims manager he traveled extensively in the Northeast dealing with physical damage and liability claims and in the 1980’s he specialized in claim involving commercial and transport aircraft. Ultimately, John became Senior Vice President of the Hull Loss Department, and as such was responsible for the supervision of field claim offices. He was also a member of the USAU Major Accident Response Team for both domestic and foreign accidents and often lectured to major airlines on accident preparedness and response. John has attended many industry courses on the Pratt & Whitney, GE and Rolls Royce engines, and holds a commercial pilot’s license with instrument ratings for single and multi-engine aircraft.
